No matter where you are in your relationship with that someone special, Dates are of the utmost importance!
You could be planning your first date, been dating several months or years or even married – regardless, DATE NIGHT is very important.
We ladies need our guys to ask us out and take charge by planning dates for us, just like when we use to date before we were married. I’ve been married for more than 25 years and still get all kinds of giddy when the Mr. calls me up and asks me out.
Ladies, your guy is still a boy at heart when it comes to things he loves, so sometimes we will have to do things that don’t interest us but they will absolutely love it!
The trouble is we all fall into a rut and usually when speaking of Date Night the answer is “whatever you want to do” and that can be frustrating.
This list is to help you think of dates on the fly. Some require little to no money and others will require some planning.
I’d love to have you leave your favorite date ideas in the comments below!
- Dinner and a movie
- Dinner
- Movie
- Attend a play (Your local college will likely have great ones to choose from! Check them out)
- Go fishing
- Make a Candle Light dinner at home
- Coffee and Bookstore date (even if you do not purchase anything other than the coffee, it’s still a fun date)
- Road Trip for the day
- Antiquing
- Double date with old friends
- Go Camping
- Go Roller Skating
- Go to a restaurant you’ve never been to before
- Netflix night
- Visit the Zoo
- Go to the Circus
- Game night
- Comedy show (you may have to really look into the schedule to find some good clean comedians, but they are out there)
- Volunteer together
- Go Bowling
- Get him tickets to see his favorite Basketball (sports) team
- Go to a Monster Truck show
- Take in a Rodeo
- Visit a local Art Gallery
- Weekend trip away
- Have a Pinterest weekend (pick a few projects and work on together)
- Night at a local hotel (you don’t have to go away, sometimes just a night at a hotel down the road is just as fun)
- Attend a Concert
- Treat each other to a Spa Night and/or bubble bath together
- Ice Skating
- Go Rock Climbing
- Take in a Baseball Game
- Go Strawberry picking
- Attend a Carnival
- Stargazing (set up a few lounge chairs, grab binoculars even get a pink pair for the lady and check out the skies)
These are just a few to get you started!
Write down these and many others and put them in a jar and draw them out randomly!
What is your favorite date? What is your favorite first date? How often do you date?
PS – If you have small children at home, it is extremely important to still date. You’ll show your children that dating doesn’t end after marriage and when the children grow up and move out, you’ll keep doing what you’ve always done and that is date and love each other.

My husband and I will get a coffee and take our dog to the dog park while our kids are in school. We enjoy being together. Even trips to Costco are some of our favorite dates, lol.
This is so true!! we love doing things together like that too. Crazy how a quick trip to Sams ends up being such fun and longer than anticipated.

Yeah! My husband and I can add these to our date night jar!
I know we are always looking for new things to do so that we don’t get stuck in a rut. Glad this sparked some ideas for you guys!

Our last date night, we walked into one of those painting places and each created our own painting. It was super fun to do together and I learned my husband is more of a perfectionist than he thinks he is.

I just told the Mr. that we should do one of those! I have ZERO artistic abilities but I hear you don’t need any. He and our children are all artsy. Still, i think it would be great!
One thing we recently just did was an Extreme Escape. I should add it to the list above. I will likely do an entire post. 🙂 Was amazing fun. We were in nashville tn. they have one in Chattanooga.

I was just at a women’s event where one of the “Veteran” moms (meaning all her kids have grown up, are out of the house with kids of their own) was saying she used to go to the party stores and buy whatever theme decor was on clearance. and then set up a dinner around it – decorate the house for it, make special food, even if meant learning how to cook new food… and that those were some awesome date nights and in the end it often was less than a meal out, especially since they could save the babysitter money.
Marissa I LOVE this! what a wonderful Idea! It’s just the Mr and me now, but still – what a fabulous idea!!

I love your ideas for date nights that go beyond dnner and a movie. Spending quality time with spouses is an important way to build on the bond of a husband and wife. I’m single, but I might just implement some of these with my son, as I often get stuck for ideas. Thanks!
@carrie – I love that you have date nights with your son! My son is 25 and remembers many of the ones we had. I used it to teach him how to treat young ladies, just to talk with him about him and how he was doing etc. Also loved date nights with my daughter too.
Thanks for the smile as memories flooded my heart thinking of those times.

Hubby and I are due for a date night. I am going to look into some of these ideas.
Thanks Brianna – I need to get us a jar or something so we can pull them out randomly. No one is forced to think up something. We will just agree that whatever we choose we do.

I love these ideas. We are so bad at date night, but challenged each other to one date a month 🙂

The tips are endless and so there is no more excuse for not having date nights. I already love Netflix nights but i guess it’s time to spice things up. Thanks for sharing.
exactly @matilda! We can have all sorts of excuses to not do anything but really none of them are valid.
thanks for the kind words

Dates are very important, but so hard when you have little kids! We are trying to focus more on having dates at home, but being sick this winter has made it even more difficult. Looking forward to healthier and more romantic times!
Even MORE important to date when you have little kids! They need to see just how important date nights are! plus, the empty nest is coming! (go right now and steal 3 more hugs from the kids!)
Once the kids are grown, you’ll continue to do as you’ve always done… date.

These are awesome ideas, Marie! We do the drive in theater and usually the first feature is a kids movie, and the second movie is a bit more grown up. The kids fall asleep in the backseat right at the beginning of the second movie, and my husband and I get to enjoy a date night!

Ohhh I miss our drive in theater Kelly! that is so cool! Ours was the same way! something about snuggling in the front seat watching a movie on a cool spring evening. LOVE it!

Rock climbing and ice skating are two things that we’ve never done! Thanks for giving me some fresh ideas!
The only thing I’ve done on this list is the Netflix movie night! However some of them sound interesting so thanks for all the fun ideas.
We like our date nights, but we would rather snuggle up on the couch and watch TV, then go out most of the time.
What a great list! I’ve been married 40 years but I still like to find new date ideas. I may pass on rock climbing. I dangerous even climbing on the chair to clean the top of the refrigerator! I’ll be sharing this with my daughter, too.
