Keeping it Real about ME

[Translate]

Psssst...didja know.......

I have a horrible problem. I do. When I’m on the phone with a help tech person or am “waiting” for someone to help me – I tend to ask questions. Seriously. I always want to know where the person is, are they near a beach (so I know if I need to be jealous or not) how old they are etc.

I just like to know these things – maybe it helps me to remember they are a real person with real feelings or maybe, just maybe it satisfies my curiosity problem. Either way, I like finding out things about people.

In honor of that, here are some things about me. I’m just keeping it real and they are totally in a random order. Just as they pop into my head. You might want to check back from time to time as I’m sure I’ll add things to it.

1. I have frizzy-naturally curly hair.
2. I’m afraid of heights but will fly in an airplane in a heart beat
3. I’m addicted to sugar. Especially Krispy Kreme…hot donuts – But Reese Cup RULE!
4. I want to visit and do something in all 50 states.
5. I adore small versions of the real thing. For instance – have you seen the key chain version of board games? Very cute.
6. I’ve wanted to meet Chuck Norris since I was 17. (Really, can you help with this?) 5/15/2010 **This Dream of more than 25 years has come true!! Check it out here!
7. I enjoy walking in the snow. Nothing like a fresh blanket of snow to destroy!
8. While I love spreading joy, I’m a horror flick chick. I love the suspense, the drama and the kill. Just as long as it isn’t a horror movie about bugs, spiders, creepy crawlies…etc. I’m good.
9. I will enjoy being a size 16 again one of these days. Never thought it was a “happy” size before, but – it is.
10. I wish I scrapbooked more.
11. I want to capture a picture of a full moon when it is cheesy orange and appears to be sitting right on the earth.
12. I miss my Sega Genesis.
13. I adore my husband and children. Would give up the world for them.
14. Funerals make me sick to my stomach.
15. I’m not a morning person, but I’m at work most days around 6 am.
16. I’m the happiest when I’m giving and doing for others.
17. I love the rain. Love watching it, listening to it and don’t mind getting wet as long as I’m not going some place important.
18. I hate pumping gas. I do. Really. OK, I detest it, avoid it – truly hate it!
19. I go to the beach every single chance I get. There is nothing like the ocean to me! Calming, soothing – I love it. Here is my view of the ocean.
20. I almost always buy from kids.
21. Reading blogs saves me mega bucks! I love finding new blogs.
22. I think coffee just before bedtime is so soothing.
23. I can’t wait to own one of the small itty bitty 8 inch computers. I must resist until they start putting more memory in them though. **Alert** ohhh..I do love my itty bitty computer!! Must get it more speed though!
24. I’m very random. Things just pop into my mind randomly and I must act upon them.
25. I love quotations. They inspire and motivate.
26. Stay up all night on most weekends. Usually average 4 hours of sleep Friday night and then again Saturday night. Can not make myself do that during the week no matter how hard I try.
27. I love books. Especially older turn of the century books. Cans sit and look through books for hours in a bookstore.
28. I’d love to live in a loft type home – over looking the ocean. Can you imagine the view of the sun rise from that?
29. I love choices. The more the merrier.
30. I love monkeys. When I was little – there weren’t monkey shirts, stuffed animals etc. Now they are everywhere….journals, pens, pencils – they are everywhere! One can never have enough monkey stuff.
31. I think museums are such a fun place to learn. Helps us to remember what we’ve seen and learned.

What about you?
Please feel free to use the comment section to tell me a little more about yourself. If you are on Twitter – please tell me (and others) who you are. I am @spreadingJOY. (I like that way that sounds…don’t you?) Come on – you know you want to tell us! Besides, we want to follow you too.

May 2010

32. When I can’t update this post, I think of 37 1/2 things to add to it!
33. I want to be spreading joy all across the USA and the world one day!
34. When I drive I look at shapes in the cloud. I know, not safe for those driving around me, but love seeing neat shapes.
35. I do not feel comfortable on bridges – especially when 18-wheelers are passing and shaking the bridge.
36. I LOVE singing in the car. I do. My kids don’t appreciate my talent, but they do tolorate my gifts!
37. I don’t want to grow up, I’m a toys R us kid!
38. I’m a persistant little booger! No, really…I am.
39. I love talking, chatting (just ask anyone on twitter) and being with friends – but I really, truly L-O-V-E doing things by myself.
40. There is nothing like going to the movies and being the ONLY ONE in the theatre! Love that!
41. I am a Daddy’s girl, but am proud to have “turned into” my Mother!
42. I love the sleep I get when I’ve just turned off the alarm and I’m supposed to get up. That is the most relaxing sleep ever!
43.  I’m a music loving, horrible singer kind of gal that always has music on. From sappy love songs, to golden oldies, to big band and Praise&Worship – I love it all! Oh, and around Halloween, the Christmas music starts playing in my house!
44.  I can sit and gaze at the moon, especially when it is full, for hours.  So handsome, reassuring and always lighting my way. Moonlit Beauty – there is nothing like it!
45.  Laughter is the best medicine.  Lightens the load and wraps the heart with a reassuring hug.
46.  Cartoons of yesterday are my favorites. Pooh and Piglet still make me smile and the roadrunner has my number! I just don’t do things slowly, not sure I even know how.
47.  I’m a hugger. Hugs are awesome.  I love that my 19 yr. old son will let me hug him as long as I need to, without pushing me away.
48.  I cry.  Simple fact.  May be tears of joy or because love hurts.  But I firmly believe that tears are healing.
49.  I love working in the dark with only the light of the laptop to guide me.  Having music in the background (or total silence) and everysingle light off  – very peaceful.
50.  I’m a simple kind of gal. I don’t look for nor expect fancy rings, earrings or necklaces. I love $5.00 watches that look like bracelets and cute dangle earrings!

I feel you it’s good to be personalable, you truly are, I’ve notice that with you. You take the time to know about a person ie 21things.. You put a lot of effort in your list, I can’t wait to read it and make little comments to you about them. I will do something similar hopefully. Love you my good friend, you are always keeping it real.. HUGS… Hey I’m one of those techie guys you talk to.. But I make calls out to people usually… Yeah we are real people.. Smiles..

Thanks @Tabitha in Bliss – I appreciate that, especially coming from someone who has a huge desire to give big as well!

@dr_uw – I really do love learning about people. It is just encouraging to find out how different we are, yet alike in so many ways. And – why waste precious time with “empty” space when you are getting help from you techie guys….so many people can type and talk, so it is a good thing…. 🙂

I am so glad you gave me this link on Twitter. I really appreciate your transparency about yourself. After reading your profile, I feel I somewhat know the YOU of Spreading Joy, which makes it easier for me to kick it with you on your blog and Twitter. It is like making a new friend. I will work on my own list and either Tweet it to you or repost later. In connecting with people on the social networks, I hunger to really know them. Not just what they do, where the live, and what they quote. But I can only know what they chose to reveal about themselves. When they do, like you have done in your profile, they indeed are Spreading Joy in my heart.

@prodigal – I'm sure that there are so many more than 2 things in common – but that is what time is for! I'm excited for the time to get to know you better! I hope that as you think of things that your list will continue to grow so that we may have a deeper look at such a wonderful person!

@Amy – Thanks for stopping by! I try to be transparent. Sometimes I fear that my super, silliness will turn people off. But – when the time calls for it, I can go into super serious mode, especially when someone shouts out they need prayer! So, I hope you'll enjoy the healthy mixture of serious, silly and encouraging along with the typos that are just gonna happen!

@Sojourner Thank you for stopping by! Chocolate is a wonderful passion to have and I do need to add it. Especially when combined with peanutbutter!! Thanks for your kindness!

@heartcures (Melinda) Thank you for stopping by! My list is actually proof of my utter randomness isn't it? I do need to add to it. I love for people to "know" me. Makes me feel closer to all of you guys! Thanks for the encouragement!

That's fun… and some things on your list are funny – thanks for sharing.

What drew me in is the phone conversations… I even know things about Revenue Canada Agents that are quite random! (And just to clarify, they don't come chasing after me… Hubby is on a charity org. board and the red tape is on-going.

I love to fly but am also afraid of heights, and love, love, love boating, but am terrified of water!

I cannot go into any public place without acquiring at least one new friend and often return home with 'amazing connections' with people I never new before and may never see again.

The most common topic people address when speaking to me is 'sex'. I am passionate about holiness and purity, protecting marriages, and spreading the word that God is not only okay with this topic – He loves it! And he loves when we speak truth to counteract the lies!

I consider myself the most fortunate woman on earth – though I know there are others who share this belief. I grew up in a dysfunctional home with death threats, was very abused, encountered several near-death experiences – including massive heart attack (that is believed to have been triggered by medication)- and did life without God for a time. Now I am a whole woman, with 5 beautiful children, a supportive and loving husband, and last but certainly not least, I know Jesus. I have absolutely everything I need and long for.

Great list! Leaves me with so many questions like have you ever had a customer service person tell you that they can’t tell you where they are located (I have) and what’s the coolest thing you’ve done in which state so far (I’ve hiked a bunch of them).

A few random things about me … I am absolutely in love with San Francisco (where I live) but am a desert girl deep down inside (from Tucson), I love to learn random new things and will check out the weirdest events just to do something different, I prefer relaxing yoga to workout yoga even though I’d like to workout more and I always pace when I’m on the phone even though I’m generally not fidgety. 🙂

Thanks for sharing stuff about you!

@KathrynVercillo Actually – that is a great question. Usually they tell me what city they are in and if they are near the ocean, the very NEXT question is always how often do you go to the beach.

The Coolest thing I’ve done is New York, I was able to go up inside the Statue of Liberty as well as the top of the Twin Towers – in 1986. I’ve done so many more neat things..like I love Disney and Universal Studios… I have tried to out door Rock Climb in Kentucky – but my horrid fear of heights kept me completely grounded and my daughter (11 yrs old at the time) took advantage of it.

Several neat things in different states.

Love that you love random new things!! I’m like that as well!! Besides learning it is GREAT fun!!

Thank you for sharing a few things about you!! will be looking more for you on twitter! Thanks for giving me your twitter name!!

Hi Marie, I’m very moved by your on-line friendship invitation! By your list I find we have ALOT in common. I have no list, but appreciate your openness & sense of humor. As for me, I’m happily married to Mark & we’re both Christians & animal lovers; I work as an RN in L&D; like sharing interesting stuff online & making new friends. We’re empty nesters but not close to retirement age. Recently began spending time on Twitter & FB but find it alittle impersonal, then I met up with you! I know the joy & rewards of giving thanks to my passion for animals, more like a “curse,” I’d like to save them all & try to on a very small scale (strays!) So, I look forward to more “connecting” with you=)

@Lorivoga Thank you!! I love learning about people and when I tweet with you I’ll know more about you. See, I always wanted to be a nurse growing up and even went back to school for it several years ago. But Spreading Joy was placed on my heart and I couldn’t let it go. That is too cool that you are a nurse. Twitter can be a little impersonal at first, but then once you get there and start connecting with people that you have things in common with, you’ll find friends all over the world. A network of people that will pray, help, call – email – what ever needs to be done!! I love that about the people I tweet with.

The joys of giving on any level is what I’m trying to get into the heads of everyone. Giving without Guilt!!! I need to finish that blog post I’ve started for that!

I can never say it enough! Every single act of JOY, regardless of the size, amount – or how YOU feel it helps – has limitless effects on the recipient! YOU never know where it will end up. Thank you for stopping by. I’m looking forward to getting to know you more!! Oh..yeah…Reese Cups – totally ROCK!! *HUGS*

In the early 90’s I used to like to watch the stars in the sky and for aiplanes with odd looking lights at night. I read the ancients in Bible times used to pay alot more attention to the stars and planets at night than we do now. In my rouugher neighborhood I cannot do this. I used to want to live by the beach in 1986 like by a resort town like Cawtaba or Port Clinton. Took an odd joy ride out there on saturday. And wanted for God to give me a house out there one day. And I happened upon a wedding and the bride in a limosine. and I told the lord I would like a wife too. that was a werid coincidence. Followed alongside the woman’s limo to try to get a look at her.

I had a nervous breakdown in grad school in 1986. And I had to move in with my mom. My two brothers and I did not get along at all. I put a wooden door and lock on the door. and I thought of my old room as a room in a boarding house!! I had an easy chair, my books and PC and my radio there. I knew of some people at MSU who likewise lived in rooming houses. Back then it seemed like I was living in the Great Depression, too.

Love the list!! I too love the water..I used to spend a lot of time with husband on Lake Erie fishing. We had a boat. My husband died 3 years ago Thanksgiving day. I now live in MO. with my relatives, so I miss Ohio and the lake, and the boat very much. I have only seen the ocean once, but would love to see it again.

I love being on Twitter and passing informaion along to others. I didn’t intend for it to be that way when it strated out, but I think I enjoy that more than talking a lot myself.

I have found many people online I enjoy very much, but I haven’t made a lot of conncections withh people through Twitter. I love reading their tweets. I love the wisodom, the inforamtion, and their love and passion for God as much as I have. I have found that if I need prayer I have to just ask, and many will pray with me and for me. Likewise, I pray for others who come accross my page.

In life, I am rather quite, and stay to myself, but inwardly I would love to be an outgoing person,(which does come out from time to time). I do love people and would do whatever I could to help them.

I truly enjoy seeing you on my Twitter page everyday. I pray you keep going as strong as you always have.

There is nothing wrong with being a quiet person as you tend to see more of what is going on.

YOU are excellent at spreading joy! i love how you tell others and how you are already helping by spreading the word! Thank you for your heart for others!

Hi Marie! It’s fun to get to know you better. I would never have guessed you would like horror flicks, that is interesting. Reese’s cups are the best, aren’t they? I love Milky Way Dark too.
    A few things about me:
    >My favorite smells are lilacs and freshly baked bread.
    >I love clouds – really. They come in so many shapes and colors and I find the variety fascinating.
    >Being first in line at a check-out counter makes me ridiculously happy.
    >Laughter is the very best thing, oh, except for a good hug. It’s next in line after that.
    >I hate to drink warm water. Blech!
    >Reading a good book is something I like to do almost as much as take a relaxing nap. Both are great.
It’s been fun to read the lists others have submitted.
    Take care now 🙂

Oh my gosh!! I love this about you!!

Thank you so much for sharing this!!

Its funny, but when I’m driving – I will notice those cloud shapes! Probably not too safe for those with me!!

I had not thought about the warm water, but I’m the same way sort of. I like my HOT drinks extra HOT and my cold drinks over GOBS of ice. NOTHING just warm…. how very cool!!

Thank you sooo much for filling me in!!

Nice list Marie, I had never made a list like that but the only thing I know of that I fear most of all is heights.

I was born July 30, 1946 graduated High School in 1964 4 weeks later went to enlist into the Service, took the Physical but flunked because of High Blood Pressure. I had High Blood Pressure problems since I was 15 years old but didn’t know that the military was that stringent about high blood pressure problems. That was a big let down to me because my Grandfather served in WWI and both my parents served during WWII and Older Brother served during Korean War.

I was a over the road Truck-driver for about 20 Years.

Hi Marie, I LOVE your list! I think we must be secret sisters cos we have a few things in common : )
I have curly hair. I don’t like heights..I used to cry on take-off & landing in a plane, but now I’m a “big girl” and I only hang on for dear life lol. I love books, I NEED to live near the ocean..one day. I don’t sleep much but I am a morning person. Love my hubby & kids (4 kids) I sing…all the time and my kids just roll their eyes and shake their heads. The kids are all singer/musicians. They DIDN’T get it from me, but I sound great in the shower! I don’t do horror.. Can’t..period. But I love action thrillers. Favorite movie is Man on Fire with Denzel Washington. I cry every time I watch it. In fact, I just cry… I’m a crier… I need very little to be happy and am grateful for everything I have. I’m nobody’s little girl and that’s just the way it is. I’m an old soul in a middle aged body that’s seen too much. Sometimes, I just want to go “home”. I love people to bits, but I love being by myself even more. I LOVE hugs! So now you gotta come down south to Australia so I can give you one : ))

I know the NEED to live near the ocean! how very cool! I try to avoid movies that make me cry. I cry often enough as it is…so no weepy films for me.

and I can’t WAIT to hug you one day!! Crossing the pond will be sooo very exciting knowing there would be many hugs waiting for me!

thank you for sharing this with me!!

Hi Marie,so nice to read about ”Getting To Know You”,.Girl you really know yourself,I wish I knew myself as well as you know yourself, but I have alot in commun with what you wrote about yourself.I too love the ocean, grew up right by it,lisiteng too the waves flowing back and forth is so relaxing and the smell of salt water and lisitening to the birds sing beautiful songs, life can`t be any better than that.Seeing a full moon can be so awesome to see or wiping a tear from a childs eye.I too am not a morning person but when I do get up its peaceful and usually I`m home alone injoying the quiteness. My daughter is a real blessing to me,she is 35,not married but enjoys it that way.I enjoy the first day of snow, everything is so pretty ,like a x_mas card, making angels and throwing snowballs at my husband and nephew. Here in Newfoundland we have a lot of snow and winter last so long and if I didn`t have health problems I be happy but the cold really affects me.Falling down its difficult espically when your older,my bum can`t take it like I did when I was a child.I have always loved my own company, just being me was enough,I love reading books and drinking a nice cup of hot choclate, espically when I`m cold.I`ve always enjoyed talking to older people more than my own age for some reason but do have a few friends that is the same agethat I love being with.I too was a daddy`s girl but my dad died when I was 14,which turned my life upside down but in time recoveried. He was a real example of what a father should be and to this day I still shed a few tears when I`m hurting or I miss him.I live in a city the last 38 years but miss where I grew up because it was right next to the ocean.I agree that tears are healing and sometimes when we cry its because we are hurting too and just need someone to lisiten ,but not fix.I love laughing, and love hearing others laugh espically my daughter, she has such an incredible laught, something I need to do more of.I love to help others too if I can and I love simple things as well,we don`t buy things for each other often but their are times when my husband found things that people will throw out and he will fix up and surprise me with,ex;I`ve always wanted this certain table,he goes out yesterday and someone had put it in the garbage so he brought it home and now he`s going to redo it.I know its going to be beautiful, because he is doing it.HE made me so happy,he always see the potential in things. It`s so nice to share your page on tweeter and to think about who I am,thank you for helping me ,that was easy, hugs mary

I LOVE your list!! you are correct, we do have a lot in common! – visiting old houses and old books, and history!! love love love that!

i think bug spray smells like freshly squished ants. 🙂

you are correct, we do need more strong women, but not “bullies” – we need women that aren’t always in a competition and are willing to help other women!

yep – i could add all of your list to mine!

oh – and fairytales – if you look back at Esther – i believe that story may have just inspired cinderella!

thank you for the HUGE smile!!

      {{HUGS}}

ps – my son is now 22, and still lets me hug him, and he knows that when i leave him, i will cry. its just a fact of life now.
